Welcome back! Today we’re delving into the second part of prophecies that were filled during Jesus’s ministry to the time of His crucifixion.
- Jesus Enters on a Donkey:
- Prophecy: Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Should in triumph, Daughter Jerusalem! Look your King is coming to you; He is righteous and victorious, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. – Zechariah 9:9
- Fulfilled:
- When they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethpage at the Mount of Olives, Jesus then sent two disciples , telling them, “Go into ahead of you. At once you will find a donkey tied there, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to Me. If anyone says anything say that the Lord needs them, and immediately he will send them.” This took place so that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled: Tell Daughter Zion “Look your King is coming to you, gentle, and mounted on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of the beast of burden” – Matthew 21:10-12
- They brought the donkey to Jesus, and they threw their robes on it and He sat on it. Many people spread their robes on the streets, and others spread leafy branches cut from the fields. Then those who went ahead and those who followed kept shouting: “Hosanna! He who comes in the name of the Lord is the blessed One! The coming kingdom of our father David is blessed! Hosanna in the highest heaven! – Mark 11:7-10
- Jesus Enters the Temple:
- Prophecy: “See I am going to send My messenger, and he will clear the way before me. Then the Lord you seek will suddenly come to His temple, the Messenger of the covenant you desire – He is coming” says the Lord of Hosts – Malachi 3:1
- Fulfilled: When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was shaken, saying “Who is this?” And the crowds kept saying, “This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee!” Jesus went to the temple complex and drove out those buying and selling in the temple. He overturned the money changers’ tables and the chairs of those selling doves. He said to them, “It is written My house will be called a house of prayer. But you are making it a den of thieves!” – Matthew 21:11-12
- Jesus as a Stumbling Stone:
- Prophecy:
- Therefore the Lord GOD said, “Look, I have laid a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation, the one who believes will be unshakable. – Isaiah 28:16
- The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone – Psalms 118:22
- Fulfilled: For it is contained in scripture: Look! I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and honored cornerstone, and the one who believes in Him shall never be put to shame! So honor will come to you who believe, but for those unbelieving, The stone that builders rejected has become the cornerstone and a stone to stumble over, and a rock to trip over. – 1 Peter 2:6-8
- Prophecy:
- Jesus Teaching Parables
- Prophecy: My people hear my instruction; listen to what I say. I will declare wise sayings; I will speak mysteries from the past – things we have heard and known and that our fathers have passed down to us. We must not hide them from their children, but we must tell the future generation the praises of the LORD, His might, and the wonderful works He has performed. – Psalms 78:1-4
- Fulfilled: Jesus told the crowds all these things in parables, and He would not speak anything to them without a parable, so that what was spoken by the prophet would come to pass: I will open My mouth in parables, I will declare things kept in secret from the foundation of the world. – Matthew 13:34-35
- Jesus as Light for All Nations
- Prophecy: He says, “it is not enough for you to be My Servant raising up the tribes of Jacob and restoring the protected ones to Israel. I will also make you a light for the nations, to be My salvation to the ends of the earth. – Isaiah 49:6
- Fulfilled: Then Paul and Barnabas boldly said: “It was necessary that God’s message be spoken to you first. But since you reject it and consider yourselves unworthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles! For this is what the Lord has commanded us: I have made you a light for the Gentiles to bring salvation to the ends of the earth.” When the Gentiles heard this, they rejoiced and glorified the message of the Lord, and all who had been appointed to eternal life believed. – Acts 13:46-48
- Children Loved Jesus
- Prophecy: You have covered the earth with Your majesty. Because of Your adversaries, You have established a stronghold from the mouths of children and nursing infants to silence the enemy and the avenger. – Psalms 8:2
- Fulfilled: When the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonders that He did and the children shouting in the temple complex, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant and said to Him, “Do you hear what these children are saying?” “Yes,” Jesus told them. “Have you never read: You have prepared praise from the mouths of children and nursing infants?” – Matthew 21:15-16
We’ll start looking at Jesus’s death, burial, and resurrection in the next couple of posts. I hope you are finding this beneficial to your understanding of the Word. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments.
Until next time, beloved.
